More beaches have been added to the list of Blue Flag Beaches on the Costa del Sol in Malaga for 2018. As if you needed more reason to move to this incredible part of Spain apart from the gorgeous weather and the laidback lifestyle, the beaches in this area of sunny Andalusia have been recognised with the Blue Flag award for their natural beauty, the cleanliness of the environment and the purity of the water.
The Blue Flag has been a symbol of the best quality beaches worldwide for over thirty years, certifying the coasts of countries around the world based on award criteria such as their water quality, safety, environmental education and information and the provision of services. Beaches which are awarded Blue Flag status proudly fly their flag on the beach itself, and Spain has held the top spot for the most pristine seaside areas for almost three decades since the awards started in 1987.
The Costa del Sol runs from the border with Granada in the east all the way to Gibraltar in the west, and as of 2018 there are 25 beaches classified as being Blue Flag beaches in 11 different municipalities in this region.
In the east, the most famous and exquisite of them are Ferrara in Torrox, Algarrobo Costa in the Algarrobo region and Benajarafe, Torre del Mar and La Caleta in Velez-Malaga. On the other end of the Spanish Costa, there is a wealth of coastlines classified with this certification, most notably the Fuengirola beach in the Fuengirola area, Casablanca and El Faro beaches in Marbella and in Estepona the secluded and relaxing beaches of El Padron, El Cristo and La Rada.
The latest additions to the list of Blue Flag beaches in 2018 include the beach of Los Alamos in Torremolinos, the only beach in this fantastic region to be recognised as such. Also new this year is the municipality of Casares with its Ancha beach, as well as the regions of Velez-Malaga and Estepona each having new Blue Flag beaches added to their roster, La Caleta Paseo and Arroyo Vaquero beaches, respectively.
All year round there is fantastic weather in the Andalusian coastal region of the Costa del Sol, so why not make 2018 the year you buy a property there, or even just rent a house or a villa long-term? You can snatch up a two-bed house with a swimming pool in Malaga for around 60,000 euro or rent for only 500 euro a month. With sun, sea and sand right on your doorstep every day, what more could you ask for? If it’s private swimming pools or golf courses, then there’s plenty of those along the Costa del Sol too, but if the best Blue Flag beaches in the world are what you’re looking for in 2018, look no further than these ones on the southern Spanish coast:
